<h2>Power Breakfast: Barriers to cities’ growth</h2>How Central Iowa cities are navigating property tax changes and their possible effects on regional growthOfficial description:As local governments build their budgets for fiscal year 2026 and project to the future, they are facing constraints on revenue imposed by the Legislature’s 2023 decision to consolidate the state’s property tax levies and cap tax rates based on growth. That is raising concern among some Central Iowa communities and developers, who see the changes as a possible hindrance to the growth the region has seen as cities and counties prioritize where to spend their tax dollars.
