For the last decade, Angel Acosta has worked to bridge the fields of leadership, social justice and mindfulness. He recently received his doctorate in the Curriculum and Teaching Department at Teachers College, Columbia University. Angel has supported educational leaders and their students by facilitating leadership trainings, creating pathways to higher education, and designing dynamic learning experiences. His dissertation explores healing-centered education as a promising framework for educational leadership development.After participating in the Mind and Life Institute’s Academy for Contemplative Leadership, he began consulting and developing learning experiences that weave leadership development, conversations about inequality and healing to support educational leaders through contemplative and restorative practices. As a former Trustee for the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society, he participated as a speaker and discussant at the Asia Pacific Forum on Holistic Education in Kyoto, Japan. Angel continues to consult for organizations like the NYC Department of Education, UNICEF, Columbia University and others.He is the CEO and Principal Consultant at Acosta Consulting, where hedesigns and facilitate healing-centered and contemplative-based learning experiences for organizations interested in exploring issues of difference, inequality, racial equity, and well being.

We understand the current moment is impacting us all financially.This training supports participants with developing the skills and presence to facilitate the Contemplating 400 Years of Inequality Experience. Inspired by the 400 Years of Inequality project and its powerful timeline, this training will explore research and practices at the intersection of mindfulness, intergenerational trauma &amp; healing, and contemplative education. Participants will learn how to use the 400 Years of Inequality timeline as a contemplative tool for deepening conversations about structural inequality, historical literacy, community resiliency and social justice. This training will provide participants with the necessary knowledge they need to guide their communities through mindful dialogue on our past for the purpose of generating healing and restoration. This training harnesses the power of the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans to U.S. in 1619. Participants will learn how facilitate a contemplative learning experience that holds the complexity of diverse perspectives and walks community members through history in order to process our collective past for our present healing. By combining contemplative practices with the exploration of the timeline, participants will learn how to re-imagine how we can both transcend implicit bias and develop a more compassionate society.Participants will leave with a thorough understanding of foundational research, core practices, access to online community, physical timeline printing instructions, digital access to timeline, and tools for facilitating the timeline virtually. Parents, teachers, consultants and practitioners from all fields are welcomed. No prior experience with meditation or contemplative practices is required. Part of the training will focus on helping participants with developing and deepening their mindfulness practices. This training will leave you inspired and empowered to continue the hard work transforming our society for the better.Level II, Level III, Level IV Trainings will be made available to deepen understanding.
