On June 2, 1875, a group of art students had the radical idea to create their own art school—one designed for and run byindependent artists.These students broke away from theNational Academy of Design and started the Art Students League of New York—an atelier-style institution whereanyone with an interest in art education can learn traditional fine art technique.Withmore than 100 classes taught in-studio and online, League students make art from day one. League artistslearn by doing, under the guidance of professional artist instructors. Free from a set curriculum and restrictive grading system, League students can focus on making art.There are no applications or prerequisites. Members are invited to attend a meet and greet of the candidates running for the League's board election.

Members are invited to attend a meet and greet of the candidates running for the League's board election. Hear their plans to support the League and its members. Choose from one of the two dates that work for you to come meet the candidates before you vote.<a href="https://www.artstudentsleague.org/resources/board-candidates" title="https://www.artstudentsleague.org/resources/board-candidates" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Read about the candidates.</a> Ballots will be both emailed and mailed out to members in good standing in mid-November. Voting can be conducted either by mailing it in, using our online link, or in-person at the next Annual Members Meeting in December. The election results will be announced as soon as possible after the election. Reminder: to maintain your voter eligibility each year, you must have voted during a Members Business Meeting within a 24-month period. Inactive members an still participate in this year’s election and reactivate your membership status by attending the upcoming Member Business Meeting on December 11 at 6 PM, either online or in-person. At the meeting you will receive a ballot and be able to vote before the polls close at 8 PM.
