Women in Tech: Is it more complicated in Africa?

AfricArena is the stage where Africa's best tech startup talents shine. AfricArena believes in the potential of tech startup culture in Africa. Grounded by this belief, we accelerate the growth of these tech startups and the ecosystem in which they operate by providing a platform where they can tell their story, gain valuable networks and attain funding. The annual AfricaArena Summit is an annual conference that showcases Africa’s best startups and innovators in front of an audience of local and international investors looking for world-class talent. But before the Summit, pre-selections take place at various destinations across Africa. The AfricArena Tour scours the major capitals of the continent in search of tech startups that are shaking grounds. After the success of our previous 4 events, AfricArena Summit returned to Cape Town from the 14th to the16th of November 2021 where delegates will hear from some of the tech scene's leading visionaries, and startups will have an opportunity to pitch their innovative solutions to corporates and investors.

AfricArena

Panel discussion on a more balanced playing field in tech education and entrepreneurship followed by a focus on the investment side.

Africa is the only region in the world where more women than men choose to become entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, technology has appeared to be a powerful tool to solve some of the continent’s biggest challenges. Mobile money and fintech startups have brought basic financial services to millions of Africans, while decentralised energy production technology is bringing electricity in rural areas.Paradoxically, like many other tech ecosystems, Africa does not have enough women in tech entrepreneurship. AWIEF and AfricArena are determined to promote women tech entrepreneurship, help to create role models as well as move lines to make sure that tomorrow’s leading tech startups will be founded and led by an equal ratio of men and women. The goal is to ask knowledgeable speakers offering various prospects their insights on different subjects. We will be covering the role of education and technical skills, the need to have more gender-balanced VC funds as well as more role models with female founders and female leadership teams in high growth startups.Get your registration link hereAbout the organizersAfrica Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) is a premier pan-African women economic empowerment organisation which nurtures and actively promotes women innovation and entrepreneurship through its development programs, accelerators, and events, including the annual AWIEF conference and awards.
