Detroit Mercy African American Studies Program

Enjoy a lecture on the connections between Tanzanian history and Detroit Mercy's founding traditions.

Joseph Albert leads community-engaged learning international partnership formation, and teaches finance and economics at Loyola High School – Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he is also an alumnus. Mr. Albert holds a master’s degree in economics and finance from Mzumbe University in Morogoro City, Tanzania. He is recognized widely for his commitment to Ignatian traditions and values, for his work coordinating Jesuit Volunteers (JV) in Dar es Salaam, and for facilitating global Kairos retreats and visits with Jesuit universities and high schools, including with Boston College and Fairfield University. Mr. Joseph recently facilitated a partner visit to Tanzania in May 2024 that included a small team from CHASS currently working toward future bilateral exchange opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Rev. Charles O. Oduke, Vice President for Mission Integration at the University of Detroit Mercy, will give opening remarks. This event is co-sponsored by the College of Humanities, Arts &amp; Social Sciences and Carney Latin American Solidarity Archive.
