Pride Retreat: Changing focus in response to recent killing of our African American siblings.

After deep reflection, we have decided to ask you to take the retreat time scheduled for Saturday, May 30 and commit this time to taking action to respond to the killing of our African American siblings.
Two of us, Amma Thanasanti and James Rosser, will be online at the retreat zoom location from 10AM to 12:00 to offer support and practices to help us process these devastating events. 
 We encourage you to take the rest of the day you set aside for this Celebration of PRIDE and reflect how you can be part of the solution.
At present, we are aware of the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. Unfortunately, we cannot say these killings are just “recent events” because wrongful deaths occur all too often. They are clear unquestionable examples of white supremacy expressed as racial hatred. Each of these three people had so much talent and were so beloved in their communities. Their losses are devastating, unjust and affect all of us deeply; however, our African American siblings face the deadly reality of racism daily. Leaving the house means risking your life just to do things that many of us don&#x27;t think twice about.
 This is a time as LGBTQI persons to rise up and make it clear that we support and commit to work for the disruption and ending of racism in this country. We know all too well that our own lives and wellbeing can be at stake at any time. Being targets of discrimination ourselves does not excuse us from looking to our role in anti-racism work. Starting with self-exploration and moving into wise action, we are responsible for being part of the solution. To be clear, not engaging in the solution perpetuates racism.
Please join us at 10:00AM for time to be together, to find compassion, and to find actions that will help end racism; and to feel how this too is part of PRIDE.
