My name is Tammy Robertson and I'm the President and Founder of Cooking Plant Strong! We have a committed passion for optimal healthy cooking, and whole foods plant-based nutrition with a focus on education and lifestyle modifications. We offer individualized cooking instruction as well as group and employee wellness courses that include nutrition and lifestyle modification. At Cooking Plant Strong we aim to become a top leader in plant-based culinary instruction, nutrition education and food preparation for disease prevention for health and longevity.We offer specialized cooking curriculum through the Physician’s Committee For Responsible Medicine’s  (PCRM) Food For Life Program. Food for Life is comprised of an award-winning nutrition education and cooking series that provides an innovative approach to diet-related chronic diseases.. For nearly two decades the Food For Life program has been on the cutting edge providing the most valuable information demonstrating the link between diets and disease and how what we put on our forks affects promotion or prevention of illness and disability. During each class and throughout the courses students will learn:Detailed  information linking foods to healthful and optimal results or unhealthful and detrimental outcomesCooking presentations of delicious  and nutritious recipesHands-on culinary  skills and information in order to make the appropriate changes to  healthful daily livingWe provide a supportive and motivational atmosphere to  enable participants to take back charge of their health and empower them with the tools for lifelong lifestyle changes.There are 8 series in the Food For Life program:Healthy Kickstart-Discover which foods are optimal for weight management, learn about various health topics, and get empowered with the practical cooking skills needed for better health. Enjoy cooking demonstrations and taste delicious, healthful dishes in a supportive group setting.Cancer Project-Understand how to prepare cancer-fighting meals loaded with antioxidants and phytochemicals, high-fiber and low-fat foods, and healthy dairy alternatives. The series also provides information on planning meals and maintaining a healthy weight.Diabetes Iniciative-Learn how a plant-based diet reduces the risk of diabetes and can greatly benefit those who have been diagnosed with the disease. Each class offers a cooking demonstration and provides samples of delicious, health-promoting meals, along with easy and affordable recipes.Nutrition Essentials-Based on the Physicians Committee’s online21-Day Vegan Kickstart program, discover that the guiding principle for weight loss and good health is not restricting the amount of food eaten but rather choosing the healthiest foods—fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes. This course does not include live cooking demonstrations.Healthy Basics-Find out about the economic value and health benefits of plant-based foods. Attendees discover the relationship between diet and disease, get tips on planning a budget-friendly weekly or monthly menu, and enjoy cooking demonstrations that do not require costly cooking gadgets or equipment.Kids Health-Learn the benefits of the Power Plate, which contains whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. Children ages 9-12 will learn about the health benefits of eating a plant-based diet while sampling delicious, kid-friendly recipes. <h1>Food For Life: Kickstart Series Class 4- Breaking The Food Seduction</h1><p>A vegan diet of whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits can help prevent diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, “Ap- propriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.”</p><p>This curriculum is based on the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s successful 21-Day Vegan Kickstart program. Depending on one’s perspective, the Kickstart is about losing weight, maintain- ing a healthy weight, or simply embracing an overall healthful diet. Much of the basis of the Kickstart is about making a qualitative shift in the way we eat as opposed to a quantitative shift. For some people, it’s the first time the idea of not restricting amounts of foods but rather choosing the right foods has been the guiding principle for losing weight and staying healthy. The revelation is bolstered with clinical benefits such as lower cholesterol, better diabetes control, and lower blood pressure, as well as improvements in energy and mood.</p><p>Food for Life: Kickstart Your Health will allow class attendees to discover the world of health through general topics ranging from digestion to blood pressure. Results are likely to be immediate and impressive!</p>
