Robin Cole-Natural Harmony: The Limited Palette
This three-day workshop offers a deep dive into working with a limited palette consisting of one pigment from each primary color family.
https://www.robincole.art/
This is an oil painting workshop.
This three-day workshop offers a deep dive into the incredible benefits of working with a limited palette consisting of one pigment from each primary color family (yellow, red, blue) plus white. This simplified approach is one of creative constraints that trains the mind in keen decision-making and clever problem-solving. Your ability to discern and mix color will grow by quantum leaps in these carefully tailored color environments. Simplified ingredients in any mixing equation hone not only your vision but your sense of color relativity, key to sophistication and versatility within both limited and expanded palette painting. Leaning on the color wheel and complimentary mixing, we will learn to quickly and intuitively create elegant neutrals that support alluring passages of saturated color. Working from life and provided references (or personal references for advanced students), we will experiment with different sets of pigments, eventually embracing a “split” or “double” primary palette, a powerful setup that can handle a vast range of complex color and value.
