The New Beginnings Center for Somatic Mental Healthcare has served the Ventura County community since 1982. New Beginnings was founded and has always been owned and operated by licensed mental health care professionals, understanding our clients' needs as the best guide to treatment. The Center is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners and provides a wide variety of outpatient mental and integrative health services, and specializes in somatic approaches to healing and health.​Our mission is to promote healing of the individual whose nervous system has been disrupted by trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction and/or chronic pain by restoring balance and healthy functioning that will improve the individual’s overall quality of life.

Trauma is stored like snapshots in the brain and body. It is triggered in the present when the opportunity of similar perceived threat is experienced. Richter MFT, CEDS, SEP</a> is co-owner at The New Beginnings Center for Somatic Mental Health, in Camarillo, California. A Certified Eating Disorders Specialist trained in Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and Comprehensive Resource Model, Susan has over 35 years of experience providing individual and group psychotherapy treatment to those with complex trauma, anxiety, dissociation and eating disorders, and is a frequent presenter at national conferences on these issues. Susan is an IAEDP Approved Supervisor, Training Director of New Beginning’s Associate Training Program and Treatment Planning Director of New Beginning’s mental health IOP.Healing for Well-Being Series:“Healing Trauma = Brain + Body + Love”Our team of practitioners has created a free series of conversational and educational webinars plus drop-in support groups to help you and those around you through this stressful time and return to what feels better. Our brains and bodies are designed to manage stress and even trauma and be able to recover and heal if given adequate support. We will be offering education about how stress and trauma impact our mind, body, and heart, and how to heal them.
