Heart Matter

The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

Co-led by vocalist Amy D and vibraphonist Dillon Vado, Heart Matter’s innovative, original sounds combine the intentionality of chamber music with the grounded yet agile nature of Brazilian rhythm, the spontaneity of jazz improvisation, and soul-stirring lyrics.The infectiously funky nature of Esperanza Spalding, the lyrical depth of Joni Mitchell, and the catchy/memorable melodies of The Beatles and Paul Simon are some of the influences that this bold and original project nod towards in their compositions and performances. Vibraphone, electric bass, and drums form the group’s signature sonic palette, setting a potent foundation for powerful, timeless vocals.
