Placemaking – Engaging Community in a Time of Physical Distancing

Organized by <a href="https://aiabrooklyn.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">AIA Brooklyn</a> and <a href="https://www.pratt.edu/academics/architecture/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pratt Institute School of Architecture</a>, this lecture led by Pratt Professors <a href="https://www.pratt.edu/faculty_and_staff/bio/?id=maljabar" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lida Aljabar </a>and <a href="https://www.pratt.edu/faculty_and_staff/bio/?id=amN5WTBDM1loNkYvejJEOE1HQjhLdz09" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nidhi Gulati</a> will introduce participants to the importance of the public realm, placemaking and community engagement in creating healthy, equitable and resilient communities. With the onset of physical distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, communities are reinventing gathering places in digital spaces, affecting how people relate to their local environments and one another. Urban placemaking offers tools for supporting communities, tailored to their unique needs, assets and challenges. This course will explore placemaking in the context of these virtual realities, crisis recovery, and long-term resilience. Participants will learn strategies for meeting community engagement goals in spite of social distancing.Participants will learn about and develop ideas for creating new engagement methods that respond to the pandemic. Participants will learn about resources for further developing their understanding of community engagement and resilience.A Zoom meeting link will be emailed out the attendees a day or two before the event. Maximum participants: 100 AIA Credit: 1.5 LU/HSW
