This webinar is one in a series of four sessions hosted by the RTA in place of the Annual Planning Workshop because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These four free webinars will provide the guidance, insight, and tools necessary to facilitate transit-oriented development and transit accessible communities. Participants will hear from regional leaders in transportation planning, community zoning and mobility services management as they discuss the opportunities, challenges, and resources available to the Chicago region. Industry experts will provide insights to various zoning strategies that facilitate transit-oriented development (TOD) and how those strategies benefit municipal goals. They will also provide focused information about current trends in zoning, including accessory dwelling units, inclusionary zoning, and with getting code and map amendments through the approval process. Municipal representatives will be on-hand to share success stories about how revising zoning in their transit districts helped their communities achieve their planning goals and objectives.<h2>SPEAKERS</h2>

Ian Brown, AICP, is an attorney with Shapiro &amp; Associates concentrating his practice in cannabis businesses, real estate, government affairs, and all aspects of land use law. Ian represents developers, businesses, property owners and local governments on issues focusing on zoning, real estate transactions, economic incentives, government relations, and commercial litigation. Ian currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Local Government Committee of the Chicago Bar Association, serves on the Legislative Committee of the American Planning Association, and is the Founding Member of the Suburban Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Group.Michael Horsting, AICP, is the Local Planning Manager with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). His work focuses on program and project management related to transit-oriented development planning, corridor transportation studies and plan implementation activities. Prior to joining the RTA Michael was Principal Planner for Lee County in Florida where he managed the County’s transit planning department and was responsible for all long-range planning initiatives, transit service planning and engineering.Kurtis Pozsgay, AICP, is a Senior Planner with the Village of Bensenville, IL. He’s worked extensively in economic development including being part of the team that won the International Economic Development Council's 2012 Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award in Real Estate Redevelopment &amp; Reuse. Kurtis is actively involved with the Urban Land Institute in Chicago's Local Product Councils.Jacob Seid, AICP, is a Senior Planner with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP). Jake’s work focuses on land use projects and development ordinances throughout Chicago’s seven-county region. Prior to joining CMAP, he worked on zoning updates for a consulting firm with clients across the country and throughout Illinois. In addition, Jake currently serves as President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-IL).
