Learn about Mount Rainier's Natural History with Jeff Antonelis-Lapp!

In his ten years of fieldwork, Jeff Antonelis-Lapp helped geologists measure the Nisqually Glacier, sifted soils at archaeological sites in search of stone tool artifacts, and surveyed for the federally protected northern spotted owl and bull trout. These and other firsthand experiences with park scientists enabled Antonelis-Lapp to bring forward a substantial body of new information in Tahoma and Its People, published this spring by Washington State University Press.In a 45-minute presentation that includes numerous images, Antonelis-Lapp details two of the book’s most important findings: That Native Americans have gone to Mount Rainier for over 9,000 years, principally to gather resources unavailable near their year-round villages.
