Thursday September 26 2024Exclusive Documentary Screening of Dear Home of Scars featuring Ibrahim Mahama7pm Drinks and Welcome by Courtney Willis Blair, Senior Director US White Cube7.15pm Documentary Starts (running time 20 mins)IFC Center 323 6th Ave, New York, NY 10014, United States The screening takes place to coincide Ibrahim Mahama’s solo <a href="https://www.whitecube.com/exhibitions/new-york" title="https://www.whitecube.com/exhibitions/new-york" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">exhibition A SPELL OF GOOD THINGS</a> at White Cube New York. Building upon the artist’s continuing investigation into economies of labour and migration, the works explore the latent potential of salvaged industrial materials to construct visual narratives around local production and trade. The exhibition runs until October 26 2024. The exhibition features a new installation and a series of charcoal drawings that take the colonial-era railways of Ghana as a primary point of reference. Remnants of track now lie abandoned as silent reminders of this history of exploitation. As Ibrahim says, they are ‘scars in the landscape’. This new installation, its construction and its community impact is featured in the documentary with fresh and intimate insight.
