The Future of Workforce is Welcoming The Summit/Medina Workforce Development Board and leaders from the Welcoming Workforce Coalition invite you to an action-packed half-day event. Designed specifically for employers, economic development agencies, and local government officials, this event offers a unique opportunity to learn from experts, connect with international newcomers, and engage with elected officials. Together, we will explore strategies to build a more welcoming and inclusive workforce. This event would not be possible without the support of the Welcoming Workforce Coalition and its partners: the University of Akron College of Business, MJ Morgan Group, and TeamNEO.

Agenda

Networking and Breakfast

Skilled immigration plays a crucial role in driving economic growth in Ohio and across the nation, boosting strategic industries, fostering local development, and improving the quality of life for local residents. However, both the United States—and Summit County in particular—have untapped potential to attract and integrate the world's best and brightest. This session, led by the Economic Innovation Group, will present the latest research on the economic and policy case for high-skilled immigration.

Welcome & Keynote

International Newcomer is the umbrella term that describes anyone who was not born in the USA but is currently living and working here. Whether a refugee supported through the UN, an individual seeking asylum, an international student studying at a local institution, or someone who is brought here via sponsorship through their company, there are numerous paths for folks to join our workforce. This panel provides insight into a small selection of these experiences and helps attendees better understand the multitude of ways that International Newcomers can join our workforce and communities.
