<p>This presentation introduces Iberia’s past with a particular focus on al-Andalus or “Islamic Spain” presented by scholar of medieval Andalusi history and culture, Dr. Veronica Menaldi.</p><p>Together we will explore the esoteric framework of the medieval period laying the groundwork for questions that continue to fascinate us today: what is consciousness? How do we understand the infinite? What can we learn from observing nature and the stars? Who are we and how can we understand cosmology? By exploring these ideas preserved in medieval Andalusi Sufi metaphysics, philosophical fiction, or theories of astral magic we can gain a greater appreciation for the Islamic art showcased in museums right now throughout California. Let us stroll through the infinite and realize the magic within us. This program reflects upon and dialogues with the Museum of Jurassic Technology’s “A Veiled Gazelle,” LACMA’s “Mapping the Infinite,” and the San Diego Museum of Art’s “Wonders of Creation” exhibitions.</p>
