Who is your "MTB Therapist?"

My name is Lee McCormack, and I'm the Lee in Lee Likes Bikes. When we work together it's all about you, not me. So I'll tell you about me here.

After careers in communication, information design, software and business, I dedicateed my professional life to communicating the essence of great mountain biking — and great living via the mountain bike.

Over 22 years I've worked with more than 10,000 students of all ages, genders, styles and levels and trained 2,000 volunteer youth MTB coaches. My 11 books have reached more than 300,000 riders. My articles and podcasts and videos have reached several million. I am widely considered the Shred Shaman or Obi Shred Kenobi of mountain biking. Other MTB coaches are working from materials I published long ago; I am continually pushing to serve riders better.

My technical approach is logical, simple and proven (I credit my previous careers). If you want to talk physics and biomechanics I'm all about it. My emotional approach is highly guru-ish — if your guru is a certified life coach, sports psychologist and gnarly athlete. If you're open to it, I will help you reconnect with your inherent badassery and ride and live in real joy. Or we can simply shred.

If you want to know my riding cred: In 2004 I was the U.S. national downhill champion and finished 8th at downhill worlds. Before I wore my shoulders out, I was a real threat at races and on Strava. Right now I am recovering from dual shoulder replacements and training for my return to DH worlds this May in Cairns, Australia. What a great way to understand my students who are also pushing through their perceived limitations.

This is what I am made to do. It is my honor to work with you. Let's have some fun on bikes!

Notes

30 percent of the $110 fee goes straight to the bike park.

Each session is 50 minutes long, with 10 minutes betwen sessions.

Feel free to sign up for multiple sessions in a row or across different days.

Our planned venue is the world class Valmont Bike Park. I reserve the right to change venue to another Boulder area bike park or trail. Broomfield has some great spots with less crowding.

Frequently asked questions

What level rider is this for?

All levels! That's the beauty of 1:1 sessions like this. We focus on what you need and work at your pace.

What will we work on?

That's up to you. We can work on technical skills, off-bike exercises, bike fit/setup, mindset, or just talk.

Where are these sessions?

Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, CO is my main "office." It has a great variety of terrain to work on. I reserve the right to change to another nearby location based on weather, conditions, crowds and whims.

How many sessions should I do?

That's up to you! If we can get you what you need in one session, that's great. Most people benefit from a long-term coaching relationship with me. A series of these short sessions is a great way to build your skills and confidence.

What is the minimum age?

I generally work with adults, but kids are welcome as long as a parent or guardian is present. If you want to sign up your kid, please email me at leelikesbikes@gmail.com and we'll discuss it.

How many people can be in this session?

Because we have limited time, 1:1 with me is your best value in terms of instruction. However, it can be super fun to share the experience with family and friends. Feel free to bring a total of 4 people (knowing your experience will be diluted). You will all share the cost.

How long is the session?

Sessions start on the hour with 10 minutes in between sessions, so we will spend 50 minutes together. Show up warm and ready!

What kind of bike do I need?

Bring whichever bike you want to learn how to ride better. I'll make sure the challenges are a good match for you and your bike.

Why not take a public group class instead?

Public group classes are awesome! However, most people need 1:1 time to work through trail trauma or other confidence issues. The faster and bigger your riding gets, the more important you work 1:1 with a qualified coach. A combo of 1:1 with me and group classes with your MTB brethren is ideal.

Who is leading these sessions?

Hi, I'm Lee McCormack and I like bikes. I am considered the most effective MTB skills coach in the world. My books, articles, videos and classes have helped millions of riders find more confidence, fun, glory and joy on their bikes. Working in person is my favorite because we make real changes.
