Using a Competency-Based framework to design deep learning in Math, Science, World Language, English, History and Humanities

<p>School of the Future values the development of our diverse students as motivated, inquisitive, and independent learners. Our Competency Based framework helps teachers collaborate to identify the most important learning outcomes in each discipline from 6th-12th grade. In turn, teachers design opportunities for students to apply their learning to larger projects that are authentic experiences in their discipline. This schoolwide framework helps teachers meet students where they are within a relevant and resonant curriculum. Ideally, through teacher coaching and student reflection, students can identify their interests, strengths and next steps so that they can continue to learn in intentional ways. </p><p>This Lighthouse visit will highlight the following:</p><ul><li>Approaches to designing learning outcomes, student tasks and learning criteria </li><li>Pedagogical and curricular practices that support competency-based learning</li><li>Schoolwide practices that promote collaboration around, and implementation of, competency based learning</li></ul>
