The CAP is broken…but it’s not too late to fix it!
The EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) still eats up around 38% of the EU budget – more than 55 billion EUR – every year. The CAP does not help farmers and rural communities meet the current challenges facing the sector and it remains a major driver of environmental damage by supporting agricultural practices which undermine the natural resources farmers rely on - threatening Europe’s ability to produce the food it needs.
Our ‘Who will fix the broken CAP?’ conference on 11 May at La Tricoterie in Brussels will show that to build a truly sustainable food and farming system, we need a new policy framework that takes all aspects of the food chain into account: from the impact of food production on our climate and the environment, to consumption and public health.
Join us for a much-needed debate with high-level decision makers and a diverse variety of speakers from organisations representing farmers, consumers and the food sector - and those working to promote environmental protection, health, animal welfare, and development.
Confirmed speakers include Phil Hogan (European Commissioner for Agriculture); Daniel Calleja Crespo (Director-General, DG Environment); and Olivier De Schutter (Co-Chair International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems - IPES-Food). There will also be a live cooking session with a top French chef.
This timely debate comes on the heels of the Commission’s Public Consultation on the CAP which ends on 2 May.
Looking forward to discussing the CAP of tomorrow with you!
