Description

Originating in the 19th century, the term “blind tiger” applied to an establishment that sold alcoholic beverages illegally. The proprietor of a saloon or bar would charge a fee to see an attraction (the blind tiger) and then give attendees a complementary drink. This was one way that people circumvented the law during prohibition.

The Blind Tiger at Oxmoor Farm will feature prohibition-era gin cocktails mixed by Molly Wellmann, who will also talk about the history of gin. The featured gin of the evening will be Old Gordon’s from the 1930s, which was donated to The Filson. Alan Bishop from Copper & Kings Distillery will also be on hand to talk about how gin is made. Copper & Kings will also provide a new gin for cocktails that will be released later this year.

Molly Wellmann is a self taught mixologist from Cincinnati, Ohio. She has immersed herself in the knowledge of classic cocktails and fine spirits, studying the history and proper preparation of classic cocktails from books, with a concentration on bourbon and historic cocktails from as early as the 1700′s, and up to the 1950′s. Molly was has been featured in publications nationwide, including Food and Wine Magazine, People Magazine, USA Today, The Sauce Magazine, and many more.
