These days, many top music composers who have been scoring film and TV are lending their talents to our newest media: video games. Using everything from full orchestras to digital instruments, this is a fascinating new creative field which turns the rules of composing sideways. Video games have earned more in revenue than film and TV combined, according to some reports. It is a bright, highly creative and competitive field. Please join us for this entertaining panel led by two of our most successful game composers who will demonstrate how they make musical magic happen in this fascinating "one-click" digital world.
Winifred Phillips is an award-winning composer. Some of her video game credits include Assassin's Creed Liberation, Total War Battles: KINGDOM, God of War, The Da Vinci Code, Speed Racer, Shrek the Third, Spore Hero and six games in the LittleBigPlanet franchise, among many others. Phillips is also the author of the bestselling book, "A Composer's Guide to Game Music" (The MIT Press, 2014), which recently was awarded the 2014 Global Music Award Gold Medal for an exceptional book in the field of music, and was described by The Boston Globe as "the first book designed to help experienced musicians brave the transition to the world of game composing." Phillips has received an Interactive Achievement Award/D.I.C.E. Award from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, three Hollywood Music in Media Awards, five Game Audio Network Guild Awards, three Global Music Awards, an IGN Best Score Award, a GameSpot Best Music Award, a GameZone Score of the Year Award, a GameFocus Award, and three Gracie Awards from the Alliance of Women in Media. Winifred was the composer of the award-winning Radio Tales series, writing the musical scores for over one hundred music drama programs such as "War of the Worlds," "The Time Machine" and "The Tell-Tale Heart." The series first aired via National Public Radio and then received a ten-year weekly broadcast run on Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Her credits in film and television include the NBC coverage of the London Olympic Games, America's Got Talent, Britain's Got Talent, Storm Stories, BBC's Da Vinci: The Lost Treasure, and Trek Nation, among many others.
Tom Salta MTV VMA nominated composer Tom Salta is one of the most versatile and prolific music artists/producers working in film, television, advertising and video games. Renowned for crafting emotionally engaging soundtracks for multimedia, Salta has received widespread industry acclaim for his world-class produced scores featured in video game titles such as HALO: Masterchief Collection, HALO: Spartan Assault, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, From Dust, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Red Steel (IGN Award for Best Original Score), Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X series and original songs and adaptations for the world’s #1 dance game series, Just Dance. In addition to these scoring assignments, Salta has created music for numerous national commercials and ad campaigns for companies like Coca-Cola and the Marines, as well as music for Hollywood film trailers.

Elizabeth Rose Elizabeth Rose's Relative Pitch, (her one woman musical comedy about the life of a performing songwriter) was produced Off Broadway by the Cherry Lane Theatre's Mentor Project. A storyteller at heart, she has produced songs and music for PBS, Nickelodeon, the Discovery Channel and film. As an "edu-tainer," she's taught songwriting, music and video production in several NYC public high schools. When her job was cut, she was given the choice of substituting in a different school each week - or resigning. She almost resigned. Then she realized it would give her access to a unique story. So she stayed. And wrote it. Her first book, Yo Miz! is her memoir of teaching in 25 Manhattan public high schools in one wacky year. Elizabeth is a member of the NY SCL Steering Committee, writes for The Score and continues to advocate for all music creators, especially women composers and songwriters.
