The Moon and Stars Project of The American Turkish Society is proud to present the 13th New York Turkish Film Festival to be held May 16-25, 2014 at the SVA Theater at 333 West 23rd St. (between 8th and 9th Avenues). The festival will include 10 feature-length films by Turkish directors including contemporary films from Turkey, debut films from Turkey’s newest directors, documentaries and a selection of short films. The films include soul-searching individuals, romance, poetry and children with the spirit to pursue their identities in spite of many difficulties.
Films in the festival include the highly acclaimed film, Love Me by Maryna Er Gorbach & Mehmet Bahadir, set in snowy Kiev which is an unlikely romance while Yozgat Blues follows two musicians who move from Istanbul to a small town where they navigate friendships and small town issues. Beautiful Turkish scenes can be enjoyed opening night in Butterfly's Dream, as well as in the coming of age drama, Blue Wave. In addition, two powerful documentaries will be screened with question and answer sessions following the screenings: Girls of Hope by Aysegul Selenga Taskentand which explores girls in rural Turkey who are trying to pursue their dream of a high school education, and My Child by Can Candan who sensitively explores families with LGBT children who are learning how to best support them and educate others on gender issues.
Festival Passes can also be purchased in conjunction with membership in The American Turkish Society. Membership gives you discounted admissions rates for various high-level business, policy, and cultural events, free access to members' only events, and a chance to meet great people who all support U.S.-Turkey friendship.
