Description
Louis Armstrong House Museum
Louis and Lucille Armstrong purchased their home in Corona, Queens, from the Brennan Family in 1943. They both spent their remaining years in this home, Louis until 1971 and Lucille until 1983. Highlights include an ornate bathroom with mirrored walls and ceilings, gold plated fixtures, and marble floors; a kitchen with custom appliances, cabinetry, and Hans Wegner chairs; and Louis Armstrong's den, featuring wood paneling, a small bar, and Louis' recording equipment. The historic house tour helps to reveal aspects of Louis and Lucille's lives through the objects and design elements of the house. Participants will learn about jazz, Louis Armstrong, turn of the century New Orleans, as well as elements of 1960's and 1970's design. Guests are invited to bring snacks and enjoy Louis Armstrong's Garden, located adjacent to the house.
