Description

How to Teach Improv

So you want to teach improv. Congrats! You're about to embark on one of the most giving and rewarding journeys in comedy. The truth is, not all great improvisers make great teachers and not all great teachers are great improvisers. The first step towards successful teaching is learning:
  • Learn how to apply your improv know-how to the unique skillset of the teacher
  • Learn how to build the right exercise for the right lesson
  • Learn the art of productive side-coaching
  • Learn how to structure an engaging, effective lesson plan
  • Learn about the time-tested Viola Spolin approach
  • Learn which of your own personality traits will help you guide your students to discovery
This workshop is perfect for up-and-coming instructors currently moving through the teacher training process at ImprovBoston's Comedy School and for any experienced improviser aspiring to teach. The 3-hour class will also benefit improvisers looking to coach or direct.
Pre-requisite: completion of IBCS 601 or similar formal improv program
