Tuesday, December 9, 2014
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Maggiano's Little Italy at Cumberland Mall
1601 Cumberland Mall SE

The Georgia Chapter of Association of Corporate Counsel and FordHarrison LLP will present “Do You Know Who's Looking Behind the Curtain? How Much Can Employee Data Breaches Really Hurt Your Company?” Employee data privacy laws are complex and continuing to evolve from both federal and state law perspectives. Data privacy requirements of foreign jurisdictions also can be implicated for multinational companies. The cost of data breaches can be significant, including fines, damages, and criminal punishment. To avoid breaches or to any mitigate breaches, in-house counsel must ensure that their companies' have privacy policies and procedures, provide training, and perform risk assessment and planning for any potential breaches to ensure prompt and thorough investigation. In-house counsel of multinational companies should consider use of model contractual provisions, self-certification safe harbor program, and binding corporate rules for cross-border data transfers.

Join FordHarrison partner Tiffany Downs and associate Scott Wagner for a luncheon seminar as they help you navigate the various employee data privacy laws. Tiffany and Scott will discuss best practices for ensuring compliance with the differing employee privacy data laws and checklist of items for consideration, the cost of and remedies available for non-compliance and strategies for dealing with breaches and mitigation efforts.

Speakers:

Tiffany Downs, a partner in the Atlanta office of FordHarrison LLP, focuses her practice on employee benefits and is the head of FordHarrison’s Employee Benefits Practice Group. Tiffany advises and assists plan administrators and fiduciaries with HIPAA, ERISA, Affordable Care Act, and COBRA compliance issues and the design, drafting and administration of welfare and pension plans, including qualified and non-qualified plans.

Scott Wagner, an associate in the Atlanta office of FordHarrison LLP, counsels clients on matters relating to the design, drafting, and administration of defined benefit and defined contribution tax-qualified and non-qualified retirement plans. Scott also has extensive experience with the Affordable Care Act, and has advised clients on compliance with that Act, HIPAA, and various other federal and state laws relevant to health and welfare plans.

Attendance is limited to ACC members and their invited guests, as well as prospective ACC members. ACC membership is open to attorneys who practice law as in-house counsel employees of organizations and who do not hold themselves out to the public for the practice of law.

Thanks to FordHarrison, the CLE lunch program is complimentary for the first 120 ACC members who register on-line. Thereafter, the fee for current ACC members is $25, and, in all circumstances, $35 for non-members, including prospective members. A CLE credit of one (1) hour is being applied for, and if approved, will be submitted to the Georgia State Bar for attendees licensed to practice in Georgia.
