Singer/songwriter Epi III will be in Fort Stockton on Saturday, August 15th, at The Garage Coffee, Music & More.
Epi III grew up in Seguin, Texas, and later moved to Austin, Texas, where he performed with various bands, including TSM and Plague of 98. During a brief break from Plague of 98, and while in the studio with TSM, Epi III began recording acoustic tracks and experimenting with styles that were outside of his comfort zone. No screaming, no heavy crunch to guitars, and no insane drums. Just a nice melody with lyrics that told stories of tranquil days. The project was meant as a personal recording and not intended for public release, but after many late recording sessions and demos, Epi III released his full length album in the spring of 2015.
We got a chance to talk with Epi about his recently released music, and his background with heavy metal.
“I put out my first single ‘Memories’ to try something new. It was a special tune to me. I think this new album has changed my career in a lot of ways. It has helped me find a sound that I love and to mix up what I do. Seeing people appreciate the sounds and lyrics is very awesome. I’m hoping that my message and experience can help the next kat get through a tough time, or maybe just help someone smile or dance or sing. I still play some heavy metal, and write some from time to time. I was raised around heavy metal, so I think it kinda just flows through me [laugh].”
He wrote “Memories” for a cousin who had passed away, and writing about love and getting through pain was part of the healing process. The single has been streamed over 300,000 times since being released. He is working on a second album with “a mix of acoustic, rockin’ heavier guitars, and some electronic stuff. I have a love for music, so all music sounds good to me.”
This will be Epi’s first time coming to Fort Stockton. When asked about his upcoming visit, he replied “We heard it’s a happening place. This weekend I will be seeing Fort Stockton and it will be a rockin’ good time.” He will have CDs, posters, and T-shirts available for purchase after the concert.
