About this event
- 2 hours
In this program, participants who self-identify as queer and/or trans and participants who are active allies for queer and trans communities will meet throughout the school year to build and strengthen their practices as educators in supporting and empowering queer and trans students, staff, and folks within their school communities. In each session, participants will receive training on various topics. For example, in one session, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice strategies for discussing the surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation with students and families and colleagues. This program is designed for school faculty/staff to receive hands-on guidance and customized, consistent support on creating more inclusive, equitable schools for queer and trans students and staff but also to join a community of advocacy-centered educators focused on continued learning and collaboration.
Participants will:
- Gain resources and community support around queer and trans topics that are relevant and significant in learning environments
- Receive ongoing guidance throughout the school year, allowing for continual support around site-specific questions
- Develop strategies to align colleagues and school leadership who may need more information or guidance in this area in order to create and implement positive change in their communities
- Explore possible pathways that foster better understanding and acceptance for LGBTQ+ people at home and in the community
- Practice practical tools for active allyship
- Learn about transformative justice and how to implement it in educational settings
AUDIENCE
This virtual ongoing program is designed for all educators, school counselors, administrators, and all school staff who self-identify as queer and/or trans and participants who are active allies for queer and trans communities.
