Screening followed by discussion with ’25 to Life’ focus William Brawner and

the film’s producer, Leah NaTasha Thomas

About the film:

25 TO LIFE tells a difficult story about what it's like to live with HIV. William Brawner contracted the virus when he was a toddler through a blood transfusion, something he needed after suffering serious burns. HIV affected almost every aspect of his childhood. And when Brawner headed off to Howard University, he decided to keep his status a secret from his classmates, friends and sexual partners. He kept his HIV status a secret for over twenty-five years. Now, William seeks redemption from his promiscuous past, as he embarks on a new phase of life, with his wife, who is HIV negative. 25 TO LIFE is a startlingly fresh look at HIV and AIDS in America. It tackles the tough social issues of sex, race and manhood. Exploring the pains and triumphs of William’s life and those around him, his story illuminates the ability of the human spirit to rise above devastating circumstances and discover why life is always worth fighting for.
