ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Meritus helps low-income San Francisco youth with grit and ambition complete a college degree and prepare for post-college success through a combination of scholarships, coaching, and career mentorship. 88% of our Scholars finish college, more than three times the national average of 23% for students from similar backgrounds. By coupling a four-year scholarship award with academic and personal coaching, financial aid education, career skills development, and internships, Meritus invests in local youth to help launch them on a path to economic self-sufficiency.

EVENT OVERVIEW:

Making College Count celebrates the Meritus community which has enabled over 600 low-income youth in San Francisco to benefit from significant investments in their futures. The Meritus Celebration, supported by Honorary Event Chair and co-founder of Accel Partners Jim Swartz, recognizes a member of the community who exemplifies achievement that is possible through higher education and validates the difference that scholarships and mentoring can make in a person’s life. Meritus is recognizing University of California President Janet Napolitano with the 2015 Inspiration Award. Her leadership personifies Meritus values: persistence, academic scholarship, and contributions to the community.
