Willy Lai

Willy Lai is an award-winning user experience design leader with over two decades at top tech companies in Silicon Valley including Apple, Samsung, PayPal, Intuit, and eBay. He has had in-house, agency, and consulting experience across Mobile, Tablet, Wearables, TV, Web, and desktop. He currently leads product and design as Chief Design Officer for Haggleland. Most recently, Willy was head of design for Apple's FileMaker line of business software. Previously, he was head of design for Samsung's Milk Music streaming music apps. Prior to Samsung, Willy led large-scale, global redesigns for PayPal, Intuit, eBay, AOL, and numerous start-ups in Silicon Valley. He has been profiled in industry magazines, including the February 2017 10th Anniversary issue of Poland's iMagazine for his user experience design workshop at Google Campus Warsaw, and the 2014 Anniversary / Inspiration issue of Design Bureau magazine for the innovative design of Samsung’s streaming radio app. His strategically aligned designs have consistently met user needs and business goals, and have garnered many industry awards, including Communication Arts, W3, and A’Design awards.

A frequent keynote UX design speaker and workshop instructor at industry conferences and corporations, he has also taught, guest lectured, mentored, and/or advised numerous universities on UX design, including UC Berkeley (& Extension), Stanford University, ArtCenter College of Design, UCLA Extension, Academy of Art University, and UCSC Extension. He is also a career coach for many professionals and students. Willy holds a degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design.


Willy's fun and immersive UX design workshops draw extensively upon his two decades of leading UX designs at top tech companies in Silicon Valley as well as his teaching and mentoring experiences at top universities. He breaks down industry-proven principles, concepts, and methodologies into easily digestable lessons in a classroom setting. Participants form teams and learn all phases of the UX design process through hands-on exercises, lectures, and class discussions.  His workshops are intended for designers and non-designers, from novice to advanced skill levels.
