Urban Reads Bookstore is a Black‑owned, Baltimore‑rooted literacy hub dedicated to restoring access to books, culture, and truth in communities historically denied both. We specialize in banned books, Black and Brown authors, and stories that reflect lived experience, ensuring our readers see themselves centered, affirmed, and empowered.

Our mission is direct: bring books back to the people. Urban Reads serves justice‑impacted families, returning citizens, youth, elders, educators, and anyone hungry for knowledge. We provide a safe space for dialogue, learning, and community healing, grounded in the belief that literacy is liberation and that Baltimore deserves full access to information.

As the home base of the Urban Reads Foundation, the bookstore powers citywide literacy initiatives including book vending machines, prison library support, mobile literacy access, and youth reading programs. Every shelf, event, and partnership reflects our commitment to rebuilding The City That Reads and uplifting the voices too often erased.

Urban Reads Bookstore is more than a retail space, it’s a movement, a cultural anchor, and a community‑driven force ensuring that books, knowledge, and representation stay in the hands of the people.
