Studio Jie Chen

A ceramic nerd who addicted to everyday life aesthetics.

After I graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015, I founded studio jie chen to continue my journey with product design. While developing my product line for everyday life objects, I work as a ceramic instructor in Design Academy Eindhoven.

In last 5 years we focusing on designing ceramic everyday life utensils, and realised the idea of small-scale porcelain production. From 2019, I started to offer workshops and courses, transferring the ceramic knowledge in various depths and methodologies. Our located in the Lijsterbesstraat Eindhoven. It’s an equipped ceramic studio capable of several ceramic handmade techniques, like slip casting, hand-building, wheel throwing, and plaster mould making.

From autumn of 2021, I am starting my design research project “Down To Earth” under the support of the Piet Zwart Institute. Together with the archaeologists from the Erfgoedhuis Eindhoven, I am organizing several ceramic workshops, to unfold the everyday life of our ancestors through archaeological ceramic food vessels, which excavated around the Eindhoven region.
