Table saws include something called mitre gauges. There are two slots that are machined to the cast iron tabletop in which the mitre gauge is inserted. This is the location where you direct the wood. Just like with the tabletop, the mitre gauge that comes with the saw are of quality. It's possible to purchase better mitre gauges than what include the table saw.
