The Salt Smart Collaborative brings together organizations across northern Illinois focused on implementing best management practices aimed at safely reducing salt usage to protect our local ground and surface water resources. Working together we can raise the bar on what can be done, learn from our successful and not so successful methods and empower communities and residents to make better, more sustainable choices. The Salt Smart Collaborative is taking the lead on developing technical training and certification programs for parking lots and sidewalk snow and ice management and setting the bar for annual training recommendations. The Collaborative is open to all organizations and individuals, particularly those that are involved with the usage of rock salt in their operations.
