Lake Travis Cleanup

We’re super excited to announce the dates for the 26th annual Lake Travis Cleanup! As with everything this year, the cleanup comes with some changes. Travis County Parks and Colorado River Alliance staff put our heads together and came up with a great idea for a hybrid event featuring virtual, at-home, and in-person cleanup and education opportunities. We hope you join us on the week of October 18-24 this year as we safely work together to clean up our beloved water source. Registration will open Monday, September 7. This is what the event will look like:

  • At-home – Become a community ambassador, working to motivate your neighbors to help clean up in your neighborhoods! Litter around your streets, sidewalks, and local areas will inevitably end up in a waterway, so this is a great opportunity to preemptively clean Lake Travis and the Colorado River before the trash even ends up there! (Click here to register at home!)

  • Virtually – Log in to our kickoff on October 18 to find out what the cleanup is all about. Tune in throughout the week for select Travis County Parks tours, history lessons on Lake Travis, a panel discussion on pollution in our waterways, and fun water science lessons and activities. Finley might even make a couple appearances! Then join us for a fun virtual afterparty complete with giveaway prizes and much more!

  • In the parks – Small groups of 8 to 10 volunteers will have access to select Travis County Parks* to help clean these valuable locations. Throughout the pandemic, the parks have been a well-loved place of respite and comfort for many who longed for connection with nature. Trash grabbers and bags will be provided, but all volunteers must bring their own gloves and must wear a mask at all times.

  • In the water – The Lake Travis Cleanup wouldn’t be what it is today with our wonderful dive groups – they started this event 26 years ago and it is incredibly important that their role still be viable. We are offering group dives off Mansfield Dam for small groups of certified divers throughout the cleanup week.

We look forward to working together to keep this vital resource clean and vibrant! Registration will open Monday, September 7. In the meantime, if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to contact@coloradoriver.org.

*Park locations may be subject to last-minute schedule changes based on the latest COVID-19 regulations, so please be flexible and understanding if there are changes made to your site.
