Kitka
Dedicated to cultivating community and cross-cultural understanding through polyphonic practice, Kitka is a professional women's vocal arts ensemble and institute that draws inspiration from music rooted in Eastern European and Eurasian vocal traditions and techniques.
As intrepid explorers of the expressive capacity of the human voice, Kitka strives to expand the boundaries of traditional vocal music as an art form through the creation of new works that amplify women's experiences.
Founded in 1979 by a grassroots collective of singers who shared a passion for the resonant strength of Balkan, Slavic, and Caucasian harmony singing traditions, Kitka’s programs include concerts and vocal workshops; leadership of community choirs: national and international touring; community service activities; broadcasts; research, recording and publication projects; artist residencies; commissioning programs; and adventuresome collaborations with some of the worlds most compelling traditional and contemporary multicultural and multidisciplinary artists.
