Ken Barber
Hi! I'm Ken Barber, a lettering artist, type designer, educator, and author of the industry-acclaimed Lettering Manual, published in 2020. My childhood fascination with letterforms was ignited by Don Martin comics, Santa Cruz skateboard graphics, and speed metal logos. For the past 30 years, I've channeled my alphabetic infatuation into the creation of award-winning fonts and distinctive brand identities for companies worldwide. My handiwork is behind the iconic logos of Sandals Resorts, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Only Vegas, the city of Los Angeles, and the Broadway hit, The Cher Show.
My typographic contributions have even made their way into the collections of a few fancy museums, including the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. When I'm not hand-crafting logos and typefaces, I share my knowledge and experience as an instructor at The Cooper Union in New York City. I also conduct online lettering workshops with my wife and type industry veteran, Lynn, to help aspiring artists worldwide create their own rewarding design practice. I currently serve as the type director and studio letterer at House Industries.
In my online workshops, I share the fundamental principles behind successful lettering and show you how to practically apply hands-on skills in your own personal and professional work. All of my classes include detailed presentations, instructional drawing demonstrations, insightful Q&A sessions, and illustrated PDF guidebooks. Whether you're an enthusiastic newcomer or an experienced artist, I'm here to help you boost your lettering skills.
