Innovate413
Reigniting the Pioneer Valley
Western Massachusetts has the raw ingredients for a thriving innovation economy: world-class research, talented graduates, and anchor companies with global reach. Yet for decades, these assets have failed to produce sustained, inclusive growth. Anchor employers have downsized, and too few new firms have risen to replace them. As job prospects diminish, talented graduates leave.
This creates a dangerous feedback loop: fewer startups mean fewer new employers, less talent retention, and fewer visible successes to inspire the next generation. What’s missing isn’t brilliance; it’s the structure and momentum to connect these assets.
We have seen this kind of turnaround before. A decade ago, Valley Venture Mentors (VVM) sparked a wave of entrepreneurial activity that drew national recognition, proving that with the right support, local founders can build companies with real impact. Innovate413 aims to do it again, and to make it last.
