Create Hub Gallery

Create Hub Gallery – the Dubai-based international artist representative, art consultant and exhibition organiser dedicated to the promotion of Contemporary African Art and 3D Art – has opened its own art gallery in Al Quoz 3. The new venue will be the first art gallery in the region to focus on the promotion of Emerging African Artists.

Today, the gallery promotes and represents internationally acclaimed artists from around the world – including Charles Fazzino, Deborah Engel, Gonzalo Mabunda, and many more, with the gallery focusing heavily on the investment and promotion of contemporary African artwork since the start of 2015. Create Hub Gallery’s managing director, Lidija Khachatourian, explains why: “It was during a trip to Africa – while visiting an inspiring local art gallery and art centre at which dozens of young artists were creating their pieces – that I decided to explore the African contemporary art scene a little more. I travelled, together with my family, to several African countries and found a kaleidoscope of incredible art on the continent – from enormous, vivid collages, to look-twice, ethereal paintings, and more – all of which were a far cry from the touristy pieces that people usually associate with the words ‘African art’. I knew that people around the world needed to see these works, which is when I started importing contemporary African art into the UAE.”

While some African artists have ‘made it’ on to the international art scene – being curated and exhibited in museums, galleries and auction houses in New York, London and Paris – there are hundreds of incredibly talented painters, sculptors, and conceptual African artists that are just waiting to be discovered. “The continent’s fine art schools and universities are churning out hugely talented artists and designers year after year,” Lidija says. “Create Hub Gallery represents a cross section of that talent, from the more well-known African artists, to the more undiscovered – and therefore more affordable – artists. You’ll find a list of the men and women we represent here. Create Hub Gallery’s approach is always direct: my team and I search for talented artists before flying to visit them, spending one-to-one time with them to understand their techniques, backgrounds and personal stories. Most importantly, we physically buy their art from them; that means our purchases are not on a consignment basis. This encourages these talented creatives to produce more art, which has a direct and powerful economic impact on them in terms of being able to purchase better materials and be shown, promoted and sold on an international stage.”
