Building Our Own Community (BOOC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering youth and families in the south suburbs of Chicago since 1999.

Many challenges can negatively impact the well-being of the youth and families in our community, including: Limited access to mental health resources; Negative portrayals in media; High rates of incarceration; and Educational disparities. These factors contribute to feelings of isolation and disillusionment leading to disconnection from positive role models and positive outlets

BOOC aims to address these challenges by creating safe spaces for our community members to: Develop life skills such as communication, conflict resolution, and financial literacy; explore educational and vocational opportunities to pursue their goals; connect with positive mentors who provide guidance and support engage in culturally relevant activities that foster self-esteem and a sense of belonging.
