ALIANZA

ALIANZA

ALIANZA was established at the height of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic. As public health interventions were rolled out throughout Los Angeles County in the form of education, marketing, and clinical interventions, very little was rolled out for the over 4 million monolingual Spanish speakers that occupied Los Angeles County. This led to a widened gap in access to care, knowledge about biomedical interventions, and ultimately higher incidence and prevalence rates in the Latino/a/e community. Community organizers, activists, and thought leaders wanted to create equity amongst these populations. In response, the Los Angeles County Latino Caucus on HIV and AIDS made up of several Latino/a/e serving agencies banded together to create the first of it’s kind Latine patient conference. A monolingual Spanish-speaking conference aimed at providing education amongst a broad range of topics associated with HIV/AIDS and more.
