Shaker Heritage Society
Shaker Heritage Society (SHS) was established in 1977 to preserve the important legacy of the Shakers. Our mission is to strengthen our community through educational programs and historic preservation focused on the Shaker ideals of sustainability, equality, compassion, cooperation, and the pursuit of a meaningful life. To that end, SHS offers a wide variety of tours, workshops, and programs for youth and adults. The Society’s annual craft fairs in July, September and the autumn have become a community tradition that supports local craft artisans while also providing opportunities to learn more about Shaker history and the Watervliet site. The 1848 Meeting House and 1915 Barn are frequently used by community organizations for meetings and special events.
