Launched in 2023 by Vital Arts and Northern California Land Trust, Artist Space Trust (AST) is the nation's first nonprofit community land trust specifically built for artists and culture bearers.

AST grew out of a shared commitment to stem the displacement of artists, who are economically vulnerable to rising real estate costs in the Bay Area. AST invests in growing the creative capacity and resilience of artists by securing permanently affordable spaces for them to live, work and perform.
