JC Fab Lab
The JC Fab Lab is a new start-up run by the fine folks at Towhee LLC.
What’s a Fab Lab? “Fab Lab” is short for Fabrication Laboratory. It’s a collection of tools and technology that can be used to create just about anything. Certain scale limitations apply, but there are no limitations on what you can dream up and make… within our laws of physics, that is.
Plans thus far include CNC controlled routers for metal and wood fabrication, a vinyl cutter, 3D printers, a laser cutter that will cut wood into whatever shapes you want, 3Doodlers, various means for creating circuits & motorized/robotic functionality, and a considerable array of other traditional machines and finishing tools.
Who can use the Jersey City Fab Lab?The plan is, anyone who is trained to… or, you can hire a tech to get something amazing done. We’ll have basic training classes and workshops to get you up to speed. The workshops and classess will be for adults and kids (Yes, we're all about STEM).
The folks from Towhee Co. will, and possibly you if you have the skills, expertise, time, and dedication. We’re actively looking for new team members to get our vision up and running, and to keep it evolving.
Actually, there’s more… We see this as a seed of an educational lab, a business and brand-building incubator, a product prototyping lab, and an X-University. We want to make a place where a vibrant community of designers, makers, artists, and entrepreneurs can come together and make great things happen.
Eric Nadler is the founder of the JC Fab Lab. He has been inventing and prototyping all manner of things since he was 8 years old when he first designed and specified the functionality of a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) based on his dissatisfaction with the limited functionality of the Bowmar Brain MX-75... that was in 1974, mind you. Ever since then he's been creating and building 3D printers, video games, websites, documentary & experimental films, software applications, museum exhibitions, art installations, rockets, bicycles, musical instruments, motorized contraptions, and various electronic things. He has gleaned considerable knowledge as a result of his education at NYU's ITP (Tisch School of the Arts), Parsons The New School for Design, Brandeis University, and the School of HK.
Eric can commonly can be found repurposing defunct objects and electronics into incredibly useful, beautiful, and well designed things... and he gets nearly equal satisfaction by helping others learn to do the same.
