Woodbury Historical Tours

This event marks the 3rd annual Central Coast Conference: Seldom Heard History of the Civil War Era. Each year we bring in a stellar lineup of esteemed historians to discuss their scholarship on the American Civil War. In addition to the yearly conference, Woodbury Historical Tours has been tailoring comprehensive bus and walking tours to the hallowed sites where American history unfolded. By laying eyes upon the scene, and walking the ground in conversation with the most authoritative and passionate guides, we gain a fuller understanding of the events that transpired there. Visit the website to see upcoming tours (Civil War, Indian Wars, Exploration of the American West).

Event host David Woodbury earned a degree in History from the University of Evansville, in Indiana. He pursued a long career in publishing, beginning as co-founder of Savas Woodbury Publishers (now Savas Beatie), followed by a decade with Stanford University Press. From 2004 to 2019 he was on staff at Cengage Learning in San Francisco. He is the editor of Talking about History: Historians Discuss the Civil War (2014), and was a principal contributor to and cartographer for the Library of Congress Civil War Desk Reference. David has organized group visits to America’s Civil War battlefields for over 30 years, and began the Central Coast Conference in Monterey in 2024.
