## Full Organizer Bio
Welcome to the Little Detroit Community Garden (LDCG)! Located on Montclair Street on Detroit's East Side, we are a USDA-certified urban farm, ecological sanctuary, and vibrant outdoor classroom dedicated to neighborhood revitalization.
Founded by passionate preschool teacher and urban farmer Loretta Powell (recipient of the 2023 DreamBuilder Award), LDCG turns vacant city lots into thriving community hubs. Named in honor of her mother, Little Henretter Puryear, our garden bridges generational gaps by bringing neighbors together through agriculture and education.
What We Do:
* Youth & Community Education: We host interactive children's garden tours, outdoor story times, a community "Leading Library," and hands-on workshops on sustainable growing.
* Food Sovereignty: We grow and distribute free, fresh produce—like collard greens, tomatoes, and watermelons—directly to our East Canfield neighbors to help eliminate local food deserts.
* Neighborhood Sanctuary: Our fully accessible space features paved pathways for seniors and a community gazebo that serves as a safe outdoor meeting space for local block clubs and events.
From our signature Butterfly Rain Garden to seasonal harvest festivals and resource fairs, our events are designed to educate, empower, and inspire civic pride.
Whether you are an aspiring green thumb, a local family, or looking to volunteer, there is a place for you to root yourself in our community. Follow our page to stay updated on upcoming workshops, volunteer days, and neighborhood celebrations!
