Rivers Institute for Contemporary Art & Thought
Rivers Institute for Contemporary Art & Thought (Rivers) is a cultural non-profit for artists of the global diaspora. Based in New Orleans, a city whose history and future are predicated upon and consigned to displacement, Rivers commits to migrational imaginations. Our program is built with sensitivity to forms that evolve from past, present and future experiences of dislocation, translation, longing, and reconstitution—among other tools and conditions of diasporic living. We support long-form artist research, study, and project development and have built a network of multi-year and multi-project partnerships—near and far— to support the complex circulation of artists’ work. Evolving from the reciprocity and tensions between art and archive, memory and making—Rivers sustains artists’ work from research and experimentation through publications, exhibitions, and time-based programming.
