Naturallyisis

Isis Brantley, brand name NaturallyIsis, is regarded as America's matriarch of ancestral natural hair care. She has been an entrepreneur, teacher, and cultural activist in Dallas since 1978. In 1997 she was arrested for braiding hair without a cosmetology license, took the state to court, and won a federal suit in 2015 forcing the state to change the law, freeing natural hair braiders from cosmetology licensing. This created today's booming natural hair "braiding" industry in Texas. Her activism and the movement she created gave energy for the signing of the Texas CROWN Act in 2023. For decades she has hosted and produced cultural events in Dallas Fort Worth and Houston, and beyond. She is an Osun Priestess and carries the title of Chief at Oyotunji African Village in South Carolina.
