The primary objective of the Business Outreach and Engagement Program is to engage local businesses in San Diego Unified School District bid opportunities so that tax dollars from voter-approved bond measures (Propositions S & Z and Measures YY & U) benefit local communities, specifically, communities in which district schoolchildren live. A secondary objective is to ensure a significant portion of construction dollars are spent on diverse small businesses by reaching out to, and engaging with, women, minority, and disabled veteran business owners. It is anticipated that these efforts will increase the number of bidders and, therefore, promote more competitive bids, thus lowering project costs.
