Friends of Badock's Wood

The Friends of Badock’s Wood is a group of local residents and other interested people who help to keep Badock’s Wood a hidden haven for wildlife.

It is a lovely place to walk and experience the local nature of a riverside, woodland and wildflower meadows.

The work of the group has been instrumental in making Badock’s Wood a safe and welcoming place to visit. We have improved access and enhanced Badock’s Wood, in partnership with Bristol City Council, other local community groups and local schools, using grant funding and volunteers.

In 2008 Badock’s Wood was awarded Local Nature Reserve designation. This was achieved in no small part as a result of our volunteers’ efforts to both physically improve the wood and to improve opportunities to enjoy this local open space.

In 2015 as part of the celebrations of Bristol’s European Green Capital Award, the Friends organised a Green Hidden Treasures Project. we commissioned local sculptor Andy O’Neill to make wildlife sculptures and benches in the wood. As you walk around the wood you will come across these and many of these are now being reclaimed by fungi.

In 2022, as part of the Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, Badock's Wood was selected to be one of just 70 ancient woodlands across the UK as part of Her Majesty's Queen's Green Canopy Project.

To commemorate this One Tree Per Child planted more trees in March 2023 and March 2024. We also commissioned sculptor Andy O'Neill to create a commemorative bench. If you wish to donate towards these projects please either contact Friends of Badock's Wood or donate through the GoFundMe page

Come and visit Badock’s Wood in North Bristol – you’ll really enjoy it!
